Reading and Listening items are scored automatically and can't change on rescore the machine scoring for those sections is already final. A rescore focuses on the parts of the test that involve human judgment: your spoken responses and your open-ended written answers.
Pearson's certified raters listen to and read your responses again, independently of your original score, and apply the same official quality assurance process used to certify every PTE Academic result.
Before you request one
Three things worth knowing
A rescore is a formal review, not a second attempt these conditions decide whether one applies to you.
Your most recent test only
Only the PTE Academic test you sat most recently is eligible. An older result, even an unusually low one, can't be sent back for rescore once a newer test exists.
A 14-day window
Requests must go in within 14 days of your score report being released. After that window closes, Pearson no longer accepts a rescore request for that test.
Watch your rebooking
If you've already booked or sat another PTE test, a score change on rescore becomes unlikely. Pearson treats the newer attempt as the more current record of your ability.

How the refund reaches you
A rescore fee isn't a gamble you lose by default if the re-evaluation changes your score, Pearson refunds it. Here's what that path actually looks like.
Rescore is requested and reviewed
Pearson's certified raters re-evaluate your Speaking and Writing responses under the same official quality assurance process used for original scoring.
Your score is confirmed or changed
If the new evaluation results in a different score, the rescore fee is refunded to you. If the score stays the same, the fee isn't returned.
Refund lands in your bank account
Once Pearson issues the refund and it reaches the designated bank account, that amount is passed on to you.
How to Apply for a PTE Rescore

Check Eligibility
Ensure it has been less than 14 days since your result was published and you haven't booked another test yet.
Contact Support
You cannot request a rescore directly from the dashboard. You must contact Pearson VUE Customer Service via phone or chat.
Pay the Fee
Once connected, the representative will guide you to pay the official rescore fee (varies by region).
Await Results
Human evaluators will review your open-ended responses. You will receive an email within 3 to 14 days with the final verdict.

How much is the exact fee for a PTE rescore?
The rescore fee is not globally fixed; it depends on your test center location and local currency. Generally, it is roughly equivalent to half of the original test booking fee. Please contact Pearson support for the exact figure in your country.
What is the success rate of a PTE rescore?
Because PTE is a highly accurate computer-based test, the overall success rate for score changes is quite low. Score changes only happen when human raters identify a rare machine error in evaluating complex spoken or written responses.
How long does it take to get the rescore results?
Once you have successfully submitted your request and paid the fee, Pearson usually processes and releases the rescored results within 3 to 14 business days.
Can my score decrease after a rescore?
Yes. When human evaluators review your open-ended responses, your score can either go up, go down, or remain exactly the same. Whichever happens, the new score will permanently replace your old score.
Can I apply for a rescore for an older test?
No. You can only request a rescore for your most recent PTE Academic test. If you have taken another test since then, the older test is no longer eligible for a rescore.
What happens if I book a new test while waiting for the rescore?
If you book a new PTE test session before your rescore process is complete, your rescore request will be automatically invalidated, as the system will consider the new booking as your current priority.
Will I get a refund if my score changes?
Yes! If your overall score, or any of your communicative/enabling skills scores change (either up or down), Pearson will refund 100% of the rescore fee to your original payment method.
Can I request a rescore for a specific module only?
No, you cannot select specific modules (like only Speaking). The rescore request applies to the entire eligible portion of the test (all spoken and open-ended written responses).
