Most Bangladeshi students do not fail PTE because their English is weak. They lose marks because they practise the wrong way: memorising templates, rushing Read Aloud, or taking random mock tests without knowing which skill is pulling their score down.

This guide shows you how to approach Pearson PTE preparation the way the scoring engine actually works. You will see what each part of PTE Academic tests, which score you really need for Australia, the UK or Canada in 2026, and a day-by-day study plan you can start at home tonight.

We also cover what costs money and what is free, how to pick a practice portal, and how to book your exam from anywhere in Bangladesh. By the end, you will know exactly where to spend your next 30 days — and where not to.

Why Getting Your Pearson PTE Preparation Right Matters in 2026

A few years ago, most migration applicants simply needed “65 each” or “79 each.” That changed. Australia now sets a different minimum for each skill, and the bar for Speaking and Writing is much higher than for Reading and Listening.

For PTE Academic tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, Superior English for Australian skilled migration requires Listening 69, Reading 70, Writing 85 and Speaking 88.

That single change reshapes how you should study. If your target is Proficient or Superior, you cannot treat all four skills equally. Speaking and Writing now deserve most of your time, because one weak sub-score can cost you 10 or 20 migration points even when your overall score looks strong.

The good news is that PTE rewards structured preparation. The test is predictable, every question type follows a fixed format, and you get feedback quickly.

PTE Academic is a single, computer-based test of about 2 hours, and results typically arrive in about 2 days.

Fast results mean a bad attempt is not the end of the world — but at USD 220 per attempt, every retake is expensive in taka. Preparing properly once is far cheaper than booking twice.

What Is Pearson PTE Academic? The Test Format Explained

PTE Academic is Pearson’s computer-based English test for study, work and migration. It tests Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening, but not in four separate papers. Instead, the test has three parts, and many questions score more than one skill at once.

For example, Read Aloud counts towards both Reading and Speaking, and Write from Dictation counts towards both Listening and Writing. That is why some “small” question types have a big effect on your final result.

The three parts of the Pearson Test of English Academic syllabus

PartQuestion typesWhat it rewards
Part 1: Speaking & Writing
(9 question types)
Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Re-tell Lecture, Answer Short Question, Summarize Group Discussion, Respond to a Situation, Summarize Written Text, Write Essay Oral fluency, pronunciation, content, grammar, vocabulary
Part 2: Reading
(5 question types)
Reading & Writing Fill in the Blanks, Multiple Choice (multiple answers), Re-order Paragraphs, Reading Fill in the Blanks, Multiple Choice (single answer) Collocations, grammar, understanding text structure
Part 3: Listening
(8 question types)
Summarize Spoken Text, Multiple Choice (multiple), Fill in the Blanks, Highlight Correct Summary, Multiple Choice (single), Select Missing Word, Highlight Incorrect Words, Write from Dictation Accurate listening, spelling, note-taking

Question counts per part from Pearson’s PTE Academic preparation page. Pearson occasionally updates question types, so check the official format before your exam.

How the PTE AI scoring engine evaluates you

Each skill is reported on a scale of 10 to 90 (our PTE score chart shows what each band means). Pearson’s scoring combines automated AI scoring with human expertise, so the system judges things a nervous student often ignores: whether you hesitate, whether your pace is steady, and whether your words are clear enough to be recognised.

In practice, this means oral fluency — speaking smoothly without long pauses or restarts — matters as much as a perfect accent. A student who speaks at a calm, even pace with a Bangladeshi accent usually scores better than one who tries to fake a foreign accent and keeps stopping.

PTE Academic vs PTE Academic UKVI vs PTE Core

  • PTE Academic — for university admission and most visas, including Australia and New Zealand.
  • PTE Academic UKVI — the same format, taken as a Secure English Language Test for certain UK Home Office visa routes.
  • PTE Core — built on everyday English rather than academic English, and used mainly for Canadian immigration (Pearson’s PTE Core page).

Booking the wrong version is a surprisingly common and costly mistake. Confirm which test your university or visa route needs before you pay.

What You Will Learn in Pearson PTE Preparation at Crack PTE

Our courses follow the same logic as the scoring engine: fix the high-impact question types first, then build the rest. Every student starts with a diagnostic assessment, so we know where your marks are leaking before we teach anything.

Core topics we cover

  • Speaking: a clear Read Aloud and Repeat Sentence technique, Describe Image and Re-tell Lecture structures that sound natural, and practice for the newer Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation tasks. Our PTE Speaking tips guide covers the basics.
  • Writing: Summarize Written Text and Essay structures that stay within word limits and still answer the question — plus the grammar habits that cost Bangladeshi students the most. Our PTE writing essay template shows a structure that works.
  • Reading: collocation-based strategies for the Fill in the Blanks tasks, which carry heavy weight in both Reading and Writing. See our Reading Fill in the Blanks tips.
  • Listening: spelling and memory drills for Write from Dictation, one of the highest-value question types in the test. See our Write from Dictation strategy.
  • Exam technique: timing, microphone position, and how to recover when you make a mistake mid-answer.

The practical advantage of 1-to-1 feedback

In a crowded batch, your trainer rarely hears you speak. In a 1-to-1 session, your trainer listens to your recordings and tells you exactly why a Read Aloud answer lost marks — whether it was a hesitation, a mispronounced word, or a pace that sped up at the end.

That kind of specific feedback is difficult to get from an app alone. It is also why we pair classes with real mock test analysis: you see your weak question types in your own score report, not in a generic list.

Common Mistakes Bangladeshi Students Make in PTE Preparation

These are the patterns we see most often when new students take their first diagnostic test with us:

  • Speaking too fast in Read Aloud. Rushing creates hesitations and swallowed word endings. A steady pace almost always scores better than a fast one.
  • Pausing to “fix” a mistake. Going back to correct a word breaks fluency. Keep going — one wrong word costs less than a three-second pause.
  • Ignoring Writing because “it is only two tasks.” With Australia’s 2025 thresholds, Writing targets for Proficient and Superior are higher than Reading and Listening. Weak spelling and grammar in Write from Dictation and Fill in the Blanks pull Writing down too.
  • Memorising templates word for word. Templates help structure, but answers that ignore the actual image or lecture content lose content marks.
  • Taking mock tests without reviewing them. A mock test is only useful if you study the report and change your practice.
  • Booking the exam too early. Book when your mock scores are consistently at target — not when you hope they will be.

How to Choose the Best Pearson PTE Preparation Online Platform or Coach

There is no single right way to prepare. The right choice depends on your English level, your target score and how disciplined you are with self-study. Ask these five questions before you pay anyone:

  1. Will someone actually listen to my Speaking? Speaking is where most marks are lost, and it is hard to judge yourself.
  2. Is teaching based on my diagnostic results? A fixed syllabus for everyone wastes your time on things you already do well.
  3. Is the material updated for the current test format? Newer question types such as Summarize Group Discussion should be included.
  4. Can I see clear, published pricing? You should know what is included before you enrol.
  5. Do they help with exam booking and test-type selection? Choosing Academic, UKVI or Core correctly saves you money.

Be honest with yourself here. If your English is already strong and you need 58, official resources and a practice portal may be enough. If you have already taken PTE once and missed your target, personalised feedback usually gives the biggest jump. Thresholds as published following the Home Affairs update of 7 August 2025. Always confirm current requirements with the Department of Home Affairs before applying. For the full breakdown, read our PTE score guide for Australia PR.

Targets for study visas, the UK and Canada

For university admission, the score you need is set by each university and course, not by the government. Check the English requirements page of every university on your list — postgraduate programmes usually ask for more than undergraduate ones.

For the UK, check whether your visa route needs PTE Academic UKVI. For Canada, study permits accept PTE Academic, while economic immigration uses PTE Core. When in doubt, ask before booking — we check this for every student during their consultation.

How to Prepare for Pearson PTE: A 30-Day Self-Study Plan

This plan assumes about two to three focused hours a day. Pearson notes that many candidates prepare for 2 to 4 weeks, but students aiming for Proficient or Superior often need longer. Use your mock test results, not the calendar, to decide when you are ready.

  1. Day 1: Take a diagnostic mock test

Before studying anything, take one scored mock test under real timing. Note your four skill scores and your weakest question types. This is your starting line.

  2. Day 2: Set your target and gap

Write down the exact score you need for each skill. Subtract your diagnostic scores. The biggest gap gets the most study time.

  3. Days 3–9: Fix Speaking fundamentals

Record Read Aloud and Repeat Sentence daily. Listen back for pauses, restarts and rushed endings. Aim for a steady pace before you worry about accent.

  4. Days 10–15: Build Writing and spelling

Practise Summarize Written Text and one essay every other day, staying inside the word limits. Do 20–30 Write from Dictation sentences daily to sharpen spelling.

  5. Days 16–21: Reading and Listening accuracy

Work on Fill in the Blanks with collocations — words that naturally go together. Practise Highlight Incorrect Words and Summarize Spoken Text with active note-taking.

  6. Day 22: Second scored mock test

Compare it with Day 1. Which skills moved? Which did not? Adjust the next week so most of your time goes to the skill that is still furthest from target.

  7. Days 23–28: Targeted practice under timing

Do full sections under exam timing. Practise the newer Speaking tasks — Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation — until the structure feels automatic.

  8. Day 29: Final mock and booking decision

If your mock scores are consistently at target, book your exam. If one skill is still short, extend the plan by a week rather than paying for a retake.

  9. Day 30: Rest and exam-day preparation

Light practice only. Check your passport, your booking confirmation and your route to the test centre. Arrive early, sleep well, and position your microphone near your mouth — not directly in front of it — once you sit down. Our PTE exam day tips list everything to bring and expect.

Choosing a Pearson PTE practice app, portal and mock test with score

You need two kinds of practice: daily practice with a large question bank, and a few scored mock tests to check your level. They serve different purposes.

  • Official Pearson resources: free materials inside Smart Prep in your myPTE account, plus paid scored practice tests and a question bank. Official scored tests are the best checkpoints before booking. See Pearson’s PTE Academic preparation resources.
  • Third-party practice portals: platforms such as Alfa PTE and APEUni offer large question banks at lower cost — good for daily volume.
  • Buying access from Bangladesh: paying in foreign currency can be a hassle. Through our PTE practice portal service, students pay in taka — Alfa PTE (1 month) Tk 1,200, APEUni (1 month) Tk 2,000, and Official Pearson Practice (1 week) Tk 4,150.

A note on scores: third-party portals estimate your score with their own systems. Treat their numbers as a guide, and use at least one official Pearson scored test before you book.

Who Should Consider PTE Coaching in Bangladesh?

Coaching is not for everyone. It tends to help most if you fit one of these groups:

  • Australia PR applicants aiming for Proficient or Superior English, where Speaking 76+ or 88+ needs detailed feedback.
  • Retakers who missed their target by a few marks and cannot tell which question types caused it.
  • Students switching from IELTS who need to learn PTE’s computer-based formats quickly.
  • Working professionals with limited time who need a plan that fits evenings and weekends.
  • Beginners with basic English who need grammar and vocabulary alongside PTE strategy.

If you already have strong English, a clear target below 65 and good self-discipline, the 30-day plan above with official resources may be all you need.

Final Thoughts on Pearson PTE Preparation

Three things decide most PTE results. First, know your exact target — especially the per-skill minimums if you are applying to Australia. Second, start with a diagnostic test so you study your weak question types, not your favourite ones. Third, protect your Speaking and Writing, because that is where the 2025 thresholds are hardest.

Good Pearson PTE preparation is less about studying longer and more about studying the right things. Follow the 30-day plan, check your progress with scored mock tests, and book only when your results are consistently where they need to be. If you want a second pair of ears on your Speaking, we are happy to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pearson says many candidates prepare for 2 to 4 weeks, but your real timeline depends on your current English level and your target score. A student who already reads and speaks English comfortably and needs 58+ can often be ready in 3 to 4 weeks of daily practice. If you need Proficient or Superior English for Australia PR, where Writing and Speaking thresholds are high, plan for 4 to 8 weeks and use scored mock tests to decide when to book.

Yes. Pearson offers free preparation resources in Smart Prep inside your myPTE account, plus paid scored practice tests and a question bank. Self-study works well if you are disciplined and your English is already strong. The main risk is that you cannot easily hear your own pronunciation and fluency problems, which is where most Speaking marks are lost. Many students self-study first and add targeted coaching only for their weakest question types.

PTE is not easier in terms of English level, but many Bangladeshi students find it more predictable. It is fully computer-based, finishes in about 2 hours in one sitting, and results usually arrive in about 2 days. There is no face-to-face speaking interview, which helps nervous speakers. On the other hand, the computer is strict about fluency, timing and spelling, so you must practise the exact question formats. Read our full PTE vs IELTS comparison.

For PTE Academic tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, Australia’s Department of Home Affairs uses per-skill minimums. Competent English needs Listening 47, Reading 48, Writing 51 and Speaking 54. Proficient English (10 points) needs 58, 59, 69 and 76. Superior English (20 points) needs 69, 70, 85 and 88. Every skill must meet the minimum, so always confirm the current figures with Home Affairs before you book.

The PTE Academic, UKVI and Core fee is set by Pearson in US dollars and is currently listed at USD 220. Pearson can change the fee, so always check the price on the official test centres and fees page before you pay. Payment is made by international card. Crack PTE also offers an exam booking service for Bangladeshi students at Tk 25,500, which covers booking and exam support. Our PTE exam fee guide breaks down the full cost.

There is no single best option. Pearson’s official scored practice tests give the score prediction closest to the real exam’s scoring engine, so use them as checkpoints. Third-party portals such as Alfa PTE and APEUni are cheaper and have large question banks, which makes them good for daily practice. A practical mix is daily practice on one portal and one or two official scored mock tests before you book your exam date.

PTE test centres in Bangladesh are in Dhaka, so candidates from Chattogram, Sylhet, Rajshahi or Khulna usually travel to Dhaka. Check the current centre list in your myPTE account before you book. You choose the centre, date and time when you book on the official Pearson website. During busy admission seasons, popular dates can fill several weeks ahead, so book as soon as your mock test scores are consistently at your target.
